Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit [IQ] [Inuit traditional knowledge]<\/p>\n

 <\/strong><\/p>\n

A person with the power to make decisions must exercise that power to serve the people to<\/p>\n

whom he or she is responsible;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The obligation of guardianship or stewardship that a person may owe in relation to<\/p>\n

something that does not belong to the person;<\/p>\n

 <\/em><\/p>\n

People who wish to resolve important matters or any differences of interest<\/p>\n

must treat each other with respect and discuss them in a<\/p>\n

meaningful way, keeping in mind that just because a person is<\/p>\n

silent does not necessarily mean he or she agrees;<\/p>\n

 <\/em><\/p>\n

Skills must be improved and maintained through experience and practice;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

People must work together in harmony to achieve a common purpose;<\/p>\n

 <\/em><\/p>\n

People are stewards of the environment and must treat all of nature<\/strong><\/p>\n

holistically and with respect, because humans, wildlife and habitat<\/strong><\/p>\n

are inter-connected and each person’s actions and intentions<\/strong><\/p>\n

towards everything else have consequences, for good or ill;<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/em><\/p>\n

The ability to be creative and flexible and to improvise with whatever is at hand<\/p>\n

to achieve a purpose or solve a problem;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A person who is recognized by the community as having in-depth knowledge of a<\/p>\n

subject;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hunters should hunt only what is necessary for their needs and not waste<\/p>\n

the wildlife they hunt;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Even though wild animals are harvested for food and other purposes, malice<\/p>\n

towards them is prohibited;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hunters should avoid causing wild animals unnecessary suffering<\/p>\n

when harvesting them;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wildlife and habitat are not possessions and so hunters should avoid disputes over the<\/p>\n

wildlife they harvest or the areas in which they harvest them; and<\/p>\n

All wildlife should be treated respectfully.<\/p>\n
